Connect Mailchimp or Kit to your email list

If you already write to your readers from Mailchimp or Kit, Linkento can add each person who confirms on your page to that list for you. You need two things from your email tool: an access key and the ID of the list. This guide shows exactly where to find both, then how to paste them in and check it works.

  1. 1Step 1

    Before you start

Add an Email sign-up block to your page, so visitors have somewhere to sign up. Sending sign-ups to Mailchimp or Kit comes with Ultra. If your account does not have it, the panel in Email list shows a Ultra label.

  2. 2Step 2

    Mailchimp: copy your access key

In Mailchimp, open your profile picture, then Profile, then Extras, then API keys. Choose Create A Key, name it Linkento and copy it straight away, because Mailchimp shows it only once. The key ends with a dash and a short code, such as -us21. Copy all of it.

  3. 3Step 3

    Mailchimp: copy your Audience ID

Open Audience, then All contacts, then Settings, then Audience name and defaults. The Audience ID is shown on the right: a short code of letters and numbers, such as a1b2c3d4e5.

  4. 4Step 4

    Kit: copy your access key

In Kit, open Settings, then Developer. In the V3 Key box, copy Your API Key. Do not use the API Secret or a V4 key: Linkento needs the V3 API Key.

  5. 5Step 5

    Kit: copy your Form ID

Open Audience growth, then Landing pages & forms, and click your form. The Form ID is the number in your browser address bar, for example app.kit.com/forms/designers/1234567/edit. No form yet? Choose New form, pick Inline and save it.

  6. 6Step 6

Kit: turn off its confirmation email

In the form, open Settings, then Confirmation email, and switch it off. People already confirm on your Linkento page. With it on, Kit asks them a second time and hides them from your list until they answer.

  7. 7Step 7

    Paste both into Linkento

In the dashboard, open Apps, then Email list. Under Send sign-ups to your email tool, choose Mailchimp or Kit, paste the access key and the ID, switch on Send sign-ups as they confirm and choose Save. Linkento checks both with your email tool before it saves them.

  8. 8Step 8

    Test it

Open your page in a private window and sign up with an email address you can check. Tap Confirm sign-up in the email we send, then look for the address in Mailchimp under All contacts, or in Kit under Subscribers.

Good to know

  • Only people who confirm are sent, and only from the moment you switch this on. To add people who signed up earlier, download the CSV from Email list and import it into your email tool.
  • Linkento sends to one email tool at a time. When you switch to the other one, paste its access key too.
  • Your access key is stored scrambled and is never shown again in the dashboard. To change it, paste a fresh key and save.

Questions

It says the key or ID did not work

Check that you copied the whole key and the right ID for the tool you chose. A Mailchimp key must include the part after the dash. In Kit, use the V3 API Key, not the API Secret.

It says it could not reach my email tool

Mailchimp or Kit did not answer in time. Wait a minute and save again. Nothing was changed.

Someone confirmed but is missing in Kit

Kit is probably still sending its own confirmation email, so it hides the person until they answer it. Turn that email off as shown above. Also look under Subscribers rather than at the numbers on the form card, which can lag.

Can I send to Mailchimp and Kit together?

Not at the moment. Pick the one you write to your readers from.
